In April 2025, Finland will hold municipal and regional elections at the same time. These elections decide who will make key decisions about everyday services such as healthcare, education, rescue services, and our local environment. This guide answers the most common questions about voting, eligibility, and what I stand for as a candidate in Kirkkonummi and the Western Uusimaa wellbeing services county.
What are the regional elections?
In the regional elections, representatives are elected to the highest decision-making body of the wellbeing services county – the county council. These elected officials decide how social and health services as well as rescue services are organized in their region. The wellbeing services county is responsible for providing these services to its residents.
What are the municipal elections?
In the municipal elections, residents elect members to the municipal council. These decision-makers determine how the municipality operates and how its budget is used. Municipalities are responsible for services such as schools, sports facilities, land use planning, environmental services, and water supply.
When can you vote?
Election day is Sunday, April 13, 2025
Advance voting in Finland: April 2–8, 2025
Advance voting abroad: April 2–5, 2025
Where can you vote?
If you have the right to vote, you will receive a notice of your voting rights either by letter or electronically via the Suomi.fi service (only if you have activated it). You can vote either on the official election day or in advance during the early voting period. Your voting notification will tell you your designated polling station for election day. However, during advance voting, you can vote at any advance polling station. The notice also includes a list of advance voting locations near you, and all locations can be found at www.vaalit.fi.
In Kirkkonummi, for example, you can vote in advance at Fyyri library, Masala library, and Veikkola school.
Remember to bring an official ID with you to the polling station. You don’t need to bring the voting notice, except when voting in an institution or abroad – in those cases, it can be helpful.
Who can vote in the municipal and regional elections?
You can vote in the spring 2025 municipal and regional elections if you turn 18 by April 13, 2025, at the latest. In addition, one of the following must apply to you:
- You are a Finnish citizen and have a municipality of residence in Finland
- You are a citizen of an EU country, Iceland or Norway and have a municipality of residence in Finland
- You are a citizen of another country and have had a municipality of residence in Finland continuously for at least two years
Where can I be voted for?
You can vote for me in the municipal elections in Kirkkonummi and in the regional elections in the Western Uusimaa wellbeing services county. This region includes: Espoo (Esbo), Hanko (Hangö), Inkoo (Ingå), Karkkila (Högfors), Kauniainen (Grankulla), Kirkkonummi (Kyrkslätt), Lohja (Lojo), Raasepori (Raseborg), Siuntio (Sjundeå), and Vihti (Vichtis).
What are your main election goals?
KIRKKONUMMI – a municipality that cares for its people and environment.
- Schools where learning is for everyone
- An employer that supports the wellbeing of its workers
- Free time where associations, sports clubs, and organizations offer ways to participate and make a difference
- Nature values are part of every decision
WESTERN UUSIMAA WELLBEING SERVICES COUNTY – equal and timely services for all.
- Accessible services without long waits
- Gynecological care that doesn’t depend on wealth
- Effective structures to prevent violence against women and support for victims
Will you keep your promises if elected?
My election promise is to promote equality, community, biodiversity, and to support education and civil society. If elected, I commit to working actively toward these goals. These are not just political ideas, but values I strive to live by every day.
No candidate can guarantee that a specific issue will change just by getting elected – politics is not done alone. What I can promise is to do my best to push for the things I believe in. In times like these, it matters that people in politics ask decision-makers to look at issues through the lens of equality, environmental values, and fairness.
